When I Grow Up & The Dindy Beret

You may already know that quite a few of the Tot Topper patterns include adult sizes too. However, the “Tot Toppers” designation certainly doesn’t lend itself to all types of designing ventures. So, for the past few months, I’ve been working on getting my concept of a complimentary adult line put together.

when i grow up logo redA new line of knitting patterns for those of us who aren’t Tots! And you know, this isn’t really true considering that my first design for WIGU includes an infant and toddler/child size as well as adult sizes.

The Dindy Beret was created as an ode to my aunt! She has been a huge part of the Tot Toppers process, and I just couldn’t help myself but to make something for her.

My aunt’s full name is Diana, but we’ve always called her Aunt Dindy. It was only fitting that this beret include 2 different body designs that play on my aunt’s two names.

The Dindy Body Option is fun. It gives instruction for a subtle but funky textured polka dot.

The Diana Body Option is a simply classic design with instruction for crossover twists that lead into the crown decreases.

But the best part about this hat is how it begins! The lovely leaf brim:

You can see that this pattern gives you some interesting options! I gave my little sister my sample of the Dindy Beret, and of course, my aunt received the version knit in the classic Diana Body Option. My sister was told that this meant she had some serious aunt-dom to live up to :)

Oh and one final “option” is in the sizing, the pattern provides for an infant size, toddler/child size, and two adult sizes. The larger adult size is termed “extra slouchy” and is pictured in the white (Spud & Chloe Sweater) version, the grey (Malabrigo Merino Worsted) hat is the smaller adult size. And as always with berets, you can feel free to add extra body length to make it even more slouchy! If I had time to knit this again, I might work it with the smaller adult size but longer length before beginning the decreases.
