Pink-Not just for girls.
So you may have seen me post pictures like this in the past:
(Okay and posting those just makes me want to cry because the boys have grown so much in the past year since I took most of them!)
Not only does my friend Jill of ZingoTots do adorable work, but now she is officially an inspiration of mine :) May I present the knitted version of the Tie Tee, which I’ve called “Boys Can Wear Pink” (because duh, they can and mine do). {Photos by Sara}
You can find this pattern in the wonderful online knitting magazine for kids, Petite Purls. This is the same magazine that published the Cheery Scrap Cap back in December! All patterns are available online free of charge. There are some seriously cute designs that I love in this issue. You really just need to check them all out.
This sweater includes sizes from 2-12. Its worked in the round, seamlessly, with raglan decreases after the sleeves are joined. You will knit the tie afterwards, then sew it on the shirt. I thought about having it worked intarsia, but that would mean it wouldn’t be in the round, plus, I actually love how the tie POPS because its sewn on.
One thing I’m dying to see, is some variation on the tie. You could add stripes, or polka dots, or intarsia motifs. There are just so many options. I really want to make at least one more of these sweaters. Its so wearable for where we live, I’ve actually already washed & re-blocked the sweater because Jesse has worn it many times and it still looks perfect. Also I’ve heard at least one raveler mention knitting a long-sleeve version. Of course this will be adorable as well.
And that brings me to another point! I used
Blue Sky Alpacas Skinny Cotton for this project. I really can’t say enough good about this yarn. I love the weight, I love that its user friendly {read, machine washable}. It’s cotton so you’ll have to be on your guard so that you don’t split it while you are knitting. But it is 100% organic and the color selection is fantastic. Its also very reasonable since it comes in 65g skeins.
Jesse has his moments where he doesn’t want to model for me. I remember when Sara was taking these shots, we had the opposite problem! He threw a bit of a fit when I told him we needed to take it off so that I could put something else on him. More recently, he’s commented on how he really like “wearing a tie just like daddy.” I bet daddy would rather wear a tie that he didn’t have to have around his neck as well.
Lately I’ve found myself frustrated at not being able to utilize all those lovely knitted samples. I’m putting together my first trunk show (more details on that later!) and had everything at TNNA, and in order to keep all those knits in show-shape, they can’t be worn on a regular basis. This has just made me even more excited to publish Boys Can Wear Pink with Petite Purls. I can let Jesse enjoy & wear his new sweater (just like daddy or not!) without having to worry about keeping it ready for a show.
I hope you enjoy this design!
it's my favorite design of yours, I just LOVE this one and the pics just show it in all it's adorable glory (equally does the model, lady killer!)
